EXPLANATORY NOTE

The sole purpose of this amendment to the Current Report on Form 8-K/A (the "Form 8-K/A"), filed by First Hawaiian, Inc. (the "Company") with the Securities and Exchange Commission on August 9, 2019 (the "Form 8-K"), is to add Inline eXtensible Business Reporting Language ("XBRL") tagging to the cover page of this Form 8-K/A and to furnish Exhibit 104 to this Form 8-K/A relating to the same.

Item 8.01 Other Events.

On August 9, 2019, First Hawaiian, Inc. (the “Company”) issued a press release announcing that the Company’s Board of Directors has approved a $50 million increase in its stock repurchase program to up to $150 million of its outstanding common stock during 2019. The Company also reported that it recently sold approximately $400 million in shared national credits at a weighted average price of 99.7% and an estimated loss of $1.2 million.

A copy of the Company’s press release was attached to the Form 8-K as Exhibit 99.1.
