Special Olympics Hawaii Receives $20,000 Grant From First Hawaiian Bank Foundation

(Honolulu, Hawaii, August 10, 2012) – Special Olympics Hawaii has received a $20,000 grant from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, according to an announcement today by Bob Harrison, First Hawaiian Bank's president and chief executive officer. The grant will be used to support Special Olympics Hawaii's Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run, their annual fundraising event for the Hawaii State Summer Games.

Since 1968, Special Olympics Hawaii has been conducting year-round Olympic-type sports clinics and competitions to engage children and adults with intellectual disabilities in recreational activities, providing opportunities for participants to overcome personal challenges and achieve success.  Over 2000 local adults and children participate in Special Olympics Hawaii programs each year.

The First Hawaiian Bank Foundation is the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank.  Last year, the Foundation and Bank contributed to more than 400 non-profit organizations in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. The Foundation funds educational opportunities, access to health care, services for children and youth, human service needs, and support of culture and the arts.
